It's Down to Four

Thursday marks the beginning of the most exciting play in college hockey. While the NCAA Division I Tournament has been going on since late March, Thursday we reach the milestone of the true Frozen Four: #1 Quinnipiac, Boston College, #3 North Dakota and Denver.  Games begin at 5PM on ESPN2, the finals will be played on Saturday, April 9 at 8PM.

As with any significant event in local high school and college hockey, the Valley Jr. Warrior Alumni will be on the ice with fordable presence.  Boston College, facing #1 Quinnipiac, will have five former VJW on the ice: Ryan Fitzgerald, Casey Fitzgerald, Colin White, Brendan Silk and JD Dudek.

This will not be an easy matchup for five-time National Champion Boston College (this will be their 25th appearance in the Frozen Four).  Their opponent, from just two hours away, is the top seed in the NCAA tournament and won the regular season ECAC title as well as the ECAC Tournament championship.  Boston College (28-7-5) last reached the Frozen Four in 2014 (lost to Union, 5-4).  This year, they defeated Harvard 4-1 and secured the semifinal bid with a 3-2 victory over Minnesota-Duluth.  They bring with them twelve NHL Draft picks.  Quinnipiac reached its second Frozen Four with victories over UMass-Lowell (4-1) and RIT (4-0).  In comparison, they bring raw talent with just two draft picks, the fewest amount in the final four teams.

Regardless of the outcome, the tournament play should be fantastic and provide New England and Connecticut fans with an exciting evening.
