Coming off a weekend split that including a decisive 8-1 victory over the Boston Junior Shamrocks, two Valley Junior Warriors players were recognized with Eastern Junior Hockey League (EJHL) weekly honors.
Chris Wyman (Bartlett, IL) was named the EJHL Player of the week while Loren Barron (Glendora, CA) captured the EJHL Rookie of the Week nod.
Wyman, who has been the Warriors leading offensive player all season long, continued his impressive play by posting one goal and four assists this past weekend. His performance helped the Warriors halt a six-game losing streak. Wyman, who currently leads the team in scoring with 10 goals and 15 assists through 22 games, registered one goal and one assist in his team’s 4-3 loss to the New England Huskies on Friday. He then served as the playmaker two days later against the Boston Junior Shamrocks by notching assists in three of his team’s first five goals.
Barron, the 6-1, 180 pound rookie defenseman, played beyond his years this past weekend as he collected three key assists in the Valley Junior Warrior’s victory over the Boston Junior Shamrocks. In 22 games this season, Barron stands as the top point getter among defensemen with one goal and seven assists. Two of his assists on Saturday came during the first two periods and helped the Warriors extend its lead over the Shamrocks and secure the eventual victory.
Next up for Wyman, Barron and the entire Warriors team is a matchup against the CD Selects on Friday evening and Apple Core on Saturday. The last time the Valley Junior Warriors took on the CD Selects, the Warriors skated to a 4-3 victory.
