While the competition was fierce on the ice, this year's 2012 Warrior Thanksgiving Tournament was about more than just hockey.
The Long Island Gulls program sent two teams to this year's event. What made their appearance so memorable was the fact that many of those families were greatly affected by Hurricane Sandy and are still recovering from the devastation that befell their communities.
Despite the fact that many of the players still did not have power in their homes, the teams banded together and made the trip to Haverhill.
In a show of true compassion, the VJW ’02 Elite team collected donations from its families and presented four of the families – each of whom had lost the first floor of their homes in the storm – with gift certificates. It was the VJW team’s way of extending their wishes of strength to rebuild their homes and communities.
The entire VJW organization wishes the Long Island Gulls the best and thanks them for making the 2012 Warrior Thanksgiving Tournament one to remember.
