The team from the United States proved that they are the best in the world.
Following more than two weeks of competition, Team USA outlasted Canada in overtime to capture the 2010 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship and earn the right to call themselves world champions!
Halting what was a Canadian six-year stranglehold on the event, the United States stunned the host country by posting a 6-5 overtime victory in Saskatoon, Sask.
Scoring one of Team USA's goals in the gold medal game was the VJW's own Chris Kreider (#20), who finished as one of the team's leading scorers with six goals and one assist.
 Earlier in the tournament, Kreider was named Team USA's Player of the Game in a preliminary round contest against Switzerland. Days later, the VJW veteran scored three goals to pace his team to a 12-1 victory over Latvia.
Kreider, a native of Boxford and current freshman at Boston College, spent more than 10 years in a VJW jersey and was most recently a member of Ken Cleary’s VJW U-18 team.
Since leaving the Warriors, the 6’2”, 206-pound Kreider was selected as the No. 19 pick at the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Rangers and has enjoyed a strong freshman season for Jerry York and the Boston College Eagles as he has posted five points in 14 games.
